The UPS Store
These projects involved the creation of a variety of engaging and innovative interactive experiences for The UPS Store, with the goal of expanding consumer perception beyond just “shipping boxes.” The campaign aimed to showcase the brand’s diverse offerings in a dynamic and memorable way, driving engagement and increasing awareness of The UPS Store’s full range of services. This multifaceted project included the development of the FWA (Favourite Website Awards) Site of the Day Award winning Flash website “Cardboard World” and a series of interactive banner ads deployed across various online platforms.
Task:
My role in these projects encompassed both website development and banner ad creation:
-
“Cardboard World” Website Development:
- Contributed to the front-end development of the “Cardboard World” website using Adobe Flash and ActionScript, see also Building the UPS Store Cardboard World. This immersive online experience allowed users to explore a virtual world made entirely of cardboard, highlighting The UPS Store’s packaging and shipping services in a creative and memorable way. The website incorporated a series of games focused on the “pack and ship promise,” mailbox services, and document services, helping users understand the breadth of The UPS Store’s offerings.
- Collaborated with other developers and designers to implement interactive elements, animations, and user interface components within this virtual environment.
- Worked closely with the team to ensure a seamless and engaging user experience, to create an environment that users could fully control and navigate.
-
Interactive Banner Ad Creation:
- Designed and developed a series of interactive banner ads using Adobe Flash and GSAP, delivering eye-catching animations and engaging user interactions that complemented the “Cardboard World” website and campaign messaging.
- Leveraged creative storytelling and innovative animation techniques to effectively communicate The UPS Store’s key messages and offerings within the constraints of the banner ad format.
Key Outcomes:
- “Cardboard World” Success: The “Cardboard World” website received the prestigious FWA award, recognizing its creativity, innovation, and exceptional user experience.
- Increased Brand Engagement: The interactive banner ads and “Cardboard World” website successfully captured audience attention and drove engagement with The UPS Store’s brand and services.
- Campaign Performance: The advertising campaign, which included the “Cardboard World” website and banner ads, resulted in significant growth for The UPS Store. Nearly every core element of their business saw an increase of at least 25%, with some areas experiencing a 45% jump. In the first 30 days, the “Cardboard World” website garnered over half a million page views, 7,000 opt-ins, and an average time on site of about 5 minutes.
