Munch’n Microbes Game Kiosk

The Munch’n Microbes Game Kiosk was an experiential design and development project created for the Doggy Do Good brand, specifically to promote their “NEXT Pet Waste Bags”—the first landfill-friendly waste bags ever engineered. The core of this experience was a custom-developed, Pac-Man-style game housed within a dedicated Windows-based kiosk, designed to engage attendees at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida. The objective was to creatively educate consumers about plastic waste while highlighting the eco-friendly benefits of the new product.

Task:

My role encompassed the full spectrum of development, from software to hardware integration, and strategic input:

• Experiential Game Development:

  • Developed the interactive, Pac-Man-style game using JavaScript, designed to run seamlessly within a Chrome kiosk window.
  • Programmed the game to capture user scores, names, and email addresses for a daily gift card drawing, incentivizing engagement.
  • Integrated game mechanics with a secondary display, triggering an animation that visually decreased a real-time counter representing plastic garbage bags added to landfills, directly connecting gameplay to the product’s environmental benefit.

• Windows Kiosk Engineering:

  • Configured the Windows-based kiosk using PowerShell scripting and Docker to ensure the game automatically launched upon boot-up, providing a seamless and hands-off experience.
  • Managed the display across 2 screens: one for the interactive game and a second for the dynamic plastic bags being added to landfills counter.
  • Enabled remote control capabilities for the Windows Kiosk, allowing for efficient real-time updates and fixes during the event.

• Hardware & Strategy Collaboration:

  • Contributed to the hardware setup, ensuring the kiosk and dual-screen display functioned optimally.
  • Incorporated green Xbox controllers to align with the Doggy Do Good brand aesthetic.
  • Provided strategic input on how to best design the overall experiential flow to maximize audience engagement and product messaging.

Key Outcomes:

• The “Munch’n Microbes” kiosk was a resounding success at the Global Pet Expo (March 26-28, 2025), drawing significant attention and encouraging extensive user engagement with the Doggy Do Good brand and its innovative “NEXT Pet Waste Bags.”
• The interactive experience effectively communicated the environmental impact of traditional plastic bags and showcased the landfill-friendly solution offered by the new product.
• The automated setup and remote management capabilities ensured flawless operation throughout the multi-day event, minimizing on-site intervention.
• Due to its success, the client plans to continue utilizing and improving the kiosk for future events in 2025, demonstrating its long-term value as a marketing tool.
